Common Concerns

Everyday bookmarking frustrations and privacy risks

Beyond privacy risks when sharing devices, broken links leaving you with no context and bookmarks scattered across browsers cause daily headaches. Secure Bookmark solves them all.

Lending your phone or PC to family or coworkers, you worry they might open your bookmarks and see private pages you meant to keep to yourself.

When saved links break (404) or websites shut down, you cannot recall what the page was about, leaving you without clues to search for it.

Text titles alone make finding pages difficult. In large collections, you want to spot target websites instantly and visually with thumbnail previews.

Bookmarks are fragmented across different devices and browsers. You want a unified, device-independent private vault accessible from mobile and PC alike.

Thinking about digital legacy and the unexpected, you want personal interests and research stored in a form that third parties can never decrypt.

Saving private pages shouldn't take effort. You want to send URLs and page titles to Secure Bookmark effortlessly via right-click or toolbar extensions.

Features

Protect private bookmarks and manage them effortlessly

Combining robust zero-knowledge encryption with practical everyday tools: thumbnail previews, searchable notes for 404 links, multi-device support, and seamless Chrome extension capture.

Zero-Knowledge Encryption

URLs, titles, notes, and thumbnails are encrypted on your device before storage. The secret key is never sent to the server, ensuring no one—including the operator—can decrypt your data.

Visual Recognition with Thumbnails

Attach thumbnail images to your bookmarks. Instead of reading plain text titles, identify websites visually and spot the exact page you need in seconds.

Notes Search & 404 Rediscovery Clues

Record site summaries or keywords in notes and search your bookmarks by note content. Saving these details can also help you search if a link stops working.

Device-Independent Across Mobile & PC

Free yourself from browser-specific sync. Access your encrypted bookmark vault seamlessly from smartphones (iOS/Android), PCs (Windows/Mac/Linux), or any modern web browser.

Add Quickly from the Chrome Extension

Send a page URL and title from the context menu or toolbar popup to the app, review the details, and then save it without manual copy-pasting.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about bookmark privacy

Answers to common questions before you start.

How can I keep private bookmarks from being seen?
Secure Bookmark encrypts your bookmarks on your device with a secret key only you know before storing them. The key is never sent to the server, so bookmark content stays unreadable while the app is locked and is decrypted only after you unlock it.
Can the service operator see my bookmark content?
No. With zero-knowledge design, URLs, titles, notes, and thumbnails are all encrypted on your device before being sent to the server. The secret key is never sent to the server, so people who do not know the key, including the operator, cannot decrypt the content.
How do thumbnail images help identify bookmarks?
In addition to text titles and URLs, thumbnail previews let you visually identify web pages at a glance. Even in large bookmark libraries, you can quickly spot the page you need. Thumbnails are also encrypted on your device for absolute privacy.
How do notes help with search and lost or broken (404) links?
Saving site summaries or keywords in notes lets you search your bookmarks by note content. If a page closes or its URL changes, those saved details can help when you look for it using a search engine.
Can I use Secure Bookmark across mobile, PC, and different browsers?
Yes. Unlike browser-specific bookmarks, Secure Bookmark is device-independent. You can use it across iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and any modern browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) via the web using your secret key.
Can I easily add bookmarks from Chrome-based browsers?
Yes. The Chrome extension (Secure Bookmark Connector) allows you to send the current page URL and title directly from the right-click context menu or toolbar popup to the app, review the pre-filled details, and save securely.
Are my bookmarks safe when I lend my phone to family?
After you lock the app or close the tab, your secret key is required to read the bookmarks again. If you hand over the same device while Secure Bookmark is still unlocked, the open session can still display bookmarks. Lock the app or close the tab first, and use private or incognito mode on shared devices.
What happens to my bookmarks after I pass away?
Your secret key is not stored on the server. After the app is locked or the tab is closed, someone who does not know the key cannot decrypt your bookmarks. This gives you a way to avoid leaving private links behind for family to find.
Can this help with digital legacy planning?
It can be one part of digital legacy planning. Because someone who does not know your secret key cannot decrypt bookmark content, private links you do not want family to see after you're gone are harder to expose.
Can I bookmark any web page?
You can save HTTP and HTTPS web pages as bookmarks. Other URL schemes such as file:, ftp:, and browser-internal pages are not supported. All saved content is encrypted, so third parties, including the operator, cannot read it from server-side stored data.
Is it free to use?
Yes. You can start for free without a credit card. Basic features are available on the free plan.
